Another pregnancy milestone where the 'normal routine' needed to change. As per my other COVID related posts, I will give you a quick synopsis of what I originally had planned...

Because I live 3,000 km from my family and friends we had the original plan to fly out to Ontario in July and have a huge baby shower bash. During the party Shawn and I would surprise the guests with the gender reveal. My husband loves to play golf and conveniently one of my parent sets lives on a golf course, so I had this grand plan where we would be wearing cute matching golf outfits and go to the top of a hill and explode a golf ball with a massive poof of pink or blue. The whole crowd would cheer and it would be a memorable moment in the shower. But alas, COVID has entered the chat and those plans flew right out the window.

I was pretty upset when plans needed to be cancelled, but I don't stay down for long, and this is what we did.

During the 20 week scan, I asked our ultrasound technician to write the gender down on a piece of paper and seal it in an envelope. With that envelope I went straight to the Crave Bakery in Northwest Calgary and purchased our gender reveal cake. It was official, within 48-hours we would be finding out the gender of our baby - in the middle of a pandemic - with very little time to plan. I immediately called our neighbour Lorelei who is professional photographer and asked her to do a quick social distance photoshoot in our home. We gathered all the decorative pieces I could find in the house - since at this point all stores except for grocery and liquor were closed. We picked outfits from our closets and were ready to go.

I must admit, although it was last minute and without the grand show and crowd I hoped for, it was an amazing moment. The nice thing about having the gender reveal in our own home, was that we did not need to worry about the hustle and bustle of planning a party and entertaining guests. Shawn and I were able to enjoy the intimate moment together and really focus on each other. Once the photoshoot was complete we FaceTimed each of our parents and shared the special moment together. It was all so exciting yet exhausting all at the same time.

The gender reveal at the end of the day wasn't the huge moment I was expecting, but it filled our hearts and brought us joy nevertheless. It was a beautiful moment in time and I am happy I was able to share it privately with my husband.

A special thank you to Crave Cupcakes and Lorelei for helping this special time come together for us.

We're having a....

GIRL!!

We are over the moon excited to announce that Shawn and I are expecting a baby girl on October 1st, 2020. I've always dreamed of having a little mini-me-built-in-best-friend and now I have one. Baby A, your mom and dad are very excited to meet you in a few months, we love you already!
